Lake Maggiore Daytrip from Milan

The day will start with a private driver pick-up at your hotel (please note that is also possible to add a private guide to this tour). In about one hour and half you will reach the town of Stresa and from there will take a small ferry-boat to Isola Bella (Beautiful Island) the most famous of the charming Borromean Islands sitting in the middle of Lake Maggiore.

The Isola Bella is dominated by the Borromeo palace, a residence that between 1700 and mid 1800 was visited by Napoleon and his wife Joséphine de Beauharnais, the Princess of Wales and many other members of the European aristocracy. The villa has a spectacular Italian-style garden that looks like a heaven rising from the waters of the lake. Here you can also stop to have lunch in a typical restaurant overlooking the lake. With another short boat ride (about 10 minutes) you will get back to the banks of the lake where your driver will be waiting for you.

If time allows, you may also reach Santa Caterina del Sasso, a Medieval monastery placed on a cliff right above the lake. It is a national monument dating back to the 14th century. If time allows you can stop for a visit and then your driver will take you back to Milan.
