Description:
This private tour of Pompeii and Amalfi coast will begin in the morning with a private driver pick-up at the docks of the port of Naples with a luxury sedan/minivan.
At the arrival in Pompeii you will meet your private guide, officially licensed and with degree in archaeology or art history. Because of the complexity of the this vast archaeological site, a knowledgeable guide is really a must. Your guide will take you through the ruins of Pompeii for about two hours, visiting the most interesting sites and telling the history of this Roman city that was covered in the ashes by the vulcanic eruption of mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and that remained buried until the excavations started in the 18th century.
You will walk on the paved roads where two thousand years ago the inhabitants of this city used to walk, you will see the shops where they made their trade, go inside the small homes of the average people and the luxurious villas of the wealthy and you will admire frescoes that arrived to us still rich in colors.
After the tour of Pompeii you may choose to see the town of Sorrento or Positano. Your private driver will take you along the beautiful scenic road on the coast until you reach the destionation of your choice, either Sorrento or Positano. Both towns are right on the sea, they are really lovely, offer amazing food options and plenty of shopping opportunities. You will have time for sightseeing, shopping and lunch in a local restaurant to enjoy the excellent food of the region (lunch not included in the price of the tour). The nice thing about Sorrento is that is closer to Naples so you have less driving time (about 45 minute less).
If you wish you can extend your private tour and arrive to the town of Amalfi, a lovely former fishing village, rich in history and charm. Here you can visit the beautiful cathedral, have lunch on the sea, enjoy the local specialties like the limoncello liquor that is originally from Amalfi. You can include the stop in Amalfi from the options menu (inside the reservation box in the top right of the page). At the end of the daytrip, the driver will take you back to the port of Naples on time to board your ship.
