Itinerary – What to Expect

High-Speed Train from Milan to Venice
Your day begins at Milan Central Station, where you will board a high-speed train to Venice. The journey takes approximately 2.5 hours each way and allows you to relax while enjoying the Italian countryside. Round-trip economy class train tickets are included, with the option to upgrade to business class for extra comfort.

Meet Your Private Guide and Begin Your Walking Tour
Upon arrival at Venice Santa Lucia train station, you will meet your friendly, officially licensed private guide. From here, you’ll start your walking tour through the historic heart of Venice, stepping straight into a city built on water, history, and art.

St. Mark’s Basilica and the Symbols of Venetian Power
Your guided visit begins at St. Mark’s Basilica, the most important church in Venice and a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture. Originally built in 828 and rebuilt in 978, the basilica’s golden mosaics, precious stones, and intricate decorations earned it the nickname “Chiesa d’Oro,” the Golden Church. An optional skip-the-line interior visit can be added during booking, making the experience smoother and more engaging—especially for families traveling with children.

Doge’s Palace, Bridge of Sighs, and St. Mark’s Square
Nearby, you’ll admire the Doge’s Palace from the outside, once the political heart of the Venetian Republic. You’ll also see the iconic Bridge of Sighs before arriving at St. Mark’s Square, the only true “piazza” in Venice as all other squares are called campi. Here your guide will point out highlights such as the Clock Tower, the Procuratie Vecchie, St. Mark’s Bell Tower, and historic cafés like Caffè Florian, in business since 1720.

Rialto Bridge and Rialto Market
Your private tour continues to the Rialto Bridge, the most famous bridge in Venice. Designed by Antonio da Ponte, it offers stunning views over the Grand Canal and fantastic photo opportunities. After crossing the bridge, you’ll reach the lively Rialto Market, where locals shop daily for fresh seafood and produce—an engaging stop that families especially enjoy for its colors, energy, and local atmosphere.

Optional Private Water Taxi Experience
To experience Venice from its most iconic perspective, you can add an optional one-hour private water taxi ride. This exclusive experience allows you to admire the beauty of Venice from the water, cruising along the Grand Canal and passing some of the city’s most famous landmarks, including Santa Maria della Salute, Punta della Dogana, the Doge’s Palace, and the Rialto Bridge from below. Away from the crowds, this is an unforgettable way to see Venice, offering incredible photo opportunities, a relaxed pace, and a sense of exclusivity. It’s deeply romantic for couples and exciting and memorable for families, giving everyone a new perspective on the city.

Optional Private Gondola Ride
To make your Venice experience even more memorable, you may add a 30-minute private gondola ride at the end of the tour. This exclusive experience is just for you and your party and is not shared with others. Starting from the Grand Canal, you’ll glide past elegant palaces before entering smaller canals and passing under narrow bridges, seeing Venice from its most romantic and iconic perspective. The gondola option can be added during the booking process.

Lunch, Free Time, and Return to Milan
During the day, you’ll have time for lunch, with your guide happy to recommend excellent local restaurants based on your preferences. After the guided portion of the tour, you’ll also have free time to explore Venice on your own, shop, or simply enjoy the atmosphere before returning to the train station for your high-speed journey back to Milan.

We were debating whether Venice was worth the effort from Milan, we thought it would be too much time on the train. But I am really glad we did it. Everything was handled perfectly—from the train tickets to meeting our guide right at the station. The walking tour covered all the must-see sights, but what really stood out was how the guide explained Venice as a living city, not just a postcard. She was born in Venice and we could feel her love for the city. We loved wandering through the smaller streets and learning how Venetians actually live. Lunch was relaxed, with a great local recommendation away from tourist traps. The optional private water taxi ended up being the highlight of the day. Yes, Venice was busy, especially around St. Mark’s Square, but having a private guide helped us navigate it calmly. By the time we were on the train back to Milan, we felt like we had truly experienced Venice. Worth it.

The train ride was smooth. Private guide was nice. We had time to explore on our own. I was afraid of the crowds, but it was actually pretty good, lots of tourists but not crazy.
