Description:

Discover the timeless beauty of the Venice Lagoon on this private Murano, Burano and Torcello tour, an unforgettable journey through art, tradition, colors, and quiet corners of Venetian history.

Far from the crowds of central Venice, these iconic lagoon islands reveal a slower pace of life, centuries-old craftsmanship, and some of the most photogenic scenery in Italy.

Accompanied by your private local guide, you will explore three of the most fascinating islands in the Venetian Lagoon, traveling by vaporetto (public water bus) or, if you prefer, by private water taxi for a more exclusive and comfortable experience. This tour blends culture, history, and authentic local life, making it one of the best day trips from Venice.

Itinerary

Departure from Venice & Lagoon Navigation
Meet your private guide in central Venice and board the vaporetto (public boat service) to begin your journey across the lagoon. As you glide over the water, enjoy unique views of Venice from the sea and learn how the lagoon shaped the city’s history, economy, and daily life for over a thousand years. If you wish, you can upgrade to a private water taxi for a more relaxed and personalized experience.

Murano – The Art of Glassmaking
Your first stop is Murano, world-famous for its hand-blown glass tradition dating back to the 13th century, when Venetian authorities moved glass furnaces here to protect Venice from fires and guard trade secrets. You may visit a traditional glass workshop and watch master artisans transform glowing, molten glass into elegant vases and sculptures right before your eyes. It is a fascinating experience and a nice opportunity for buying gifts to bring home. With your guide, you will also admire the Basilica of San Donato, one of Murano’s artistic treasures, known for its stunning Byzantine mosaics and ancient origins.

Burano – Colors, Lace & Local Flavors
A short vaporetto ride brings you to Burano, instantly recognizable for its brightly painted fishermen’s houses reflected in the canals — a true paradise for photographers. Your guide will explain the legends behind the colors and Burano’s long tradition of fine lacemaking, once exported across Europe. This is the perfect place to slow down and enjoy daily island life. You may stop for lunch in a local restaurant to taste traditional Venetian cuisine and try the famous Buranei cookies, a beloved local specialty.

Torcello – Silence, History & Atmosphere
The final stop is Torcello, one of the most atmospheric and least populated islands of the lagoon. Once more important than Venice itself, Torcello now offers a peaceful, almost timeless setting. You will visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, founded in the 7th century, home to extraordinary Byzantine mosaics. Nearby stands the charming church of Santa Fosca, and those who wish can climb the bell tower for a breathtaking view over the lagoon landscape.
If you prefer to spend more time on Murano or Burano, Torcello can be skipped, allowing full flexibility in shaping your day.

Return to Venice
After the visit, you will return to Venice by vaporetto, bringing this beautiful lagoon experience to a close. If you choose the private water taxi option, you will get back with the comfort and privacy of your own boat, with drop-off at the pier nearest to your hotel.

We really enjoyed the tour with Anna. The glass factory in Murano was of great interest, and the visit to Torcello’s church was amazing. He also helped us secure a lunch reservation in Burano. He was an excellent and knowledgeable guide. Best, Paul

Cori: the tour of the islands was perfect. We saw all we wished to see. The kids had so much fun at the glass factory: they couldn't believe their eyes in seeing the incandescent glass coming out of the furnace and becoming a work of art. Davide was kind and passionate, couldn't have asked for a better person. Thank you for organizing this great day for my family.
