This private daytrip from Rome will take you to Ostia Antica (Ancient Ostia) one of the most fascinating archaeological sites of ancient Rome.
Your private guide, an archaeologist or art historian from our team, will take you through the vast ruins of this city that was the most important seaport of the Mediterranean. Here you will admire vast buildings and temples, like the temple of Hercules, the Forum and Capitolium. You will walk on the roads and see the remains of shops, rich villas and smaller homes. Inside the amphitheater you may imagine how the spectacles entertained the population. At the Neptune’s Thermae (baths) you will see beautiful mosaics that arrived to us in excellent conditions and discover how the ancient inhabitants took care of their well-being.
At ancient Ostia there is also a very important Synagogue, considered the most ancient in Europe, discovered in 1961 and used since the 1st Century BC. Outside the archaeological site there is a small but nice medieval town where it’s possible to relax and have some lunch.
TRANSPORTATION: This private excursion can easily be done by train. You will meet your guide at a small train station in Rome and from there you will arrive to the site in less than one hour with a ride through the countryside outside Rome (the cost of the train ticket is included in the price). As an alternative, a private car/minivan with driver may pick you up at your hotel in Rome, take you to Ostia and back to your hotel.
