Description:

This private tour of the Appian Way will start at your hotel in Rome where you will meet your private guide and driver and they will take you to the first site of the itinerary Thermae of Caracalla.

Your guide will take you through the impressive remains of this great complex of ancient Roman baths, built during the reign of Emperor Caracalla they were among the biggest ever built. We will then head outside of the city along the Via Appia Antica, the ancient Appian Way. This road was one the oldest and most important of the ancient times. Here, surrounded by a beautiful and peaceful countryside, you will learn more about the grandiose history of Rome.

Along the Appian Way we will stop to visit the catacombs of San Sebastiano (or catacombs of San Callisto, depending on the day of closure). You will go inside to explore the underground site used as burial place by the ancient Christians. The itinerary will continue with the Circus of Maxentius, that was built for chariot races and that is the second largest after the Circus Maximus and the tomb of Caecilia Metella, one of the most famous landmarks of the Appian Road. At the end of the tour, the driver will take you back to your hotel in Rome.

This private tour will be led by one of the guides of our team, officially licensed, with a degree in archaeology or art history and most important of all, friendly and passionate about sharing their love of Rome. We had a lovely combined tour of Ostia antica, baths of Caracalla and catacombs in Rome with our Polish guide Jowita. We opted for the agency's private transfer which worked out great because he was a careful and on time driver. The guide was beyond our expectations, she was not only charismatic and knowleadgeable but she was able to recreate a comprehensive picture of Ancient Roman life. A definite highlight from our trip to Italy. Organizing the trip with Andrea was very easy. Very recommended!

Hi Cori, After 4 days in beautiful Rome we are back home again! We enjoyed the city very much, we visited all the highlights of the city as first time visitors of Rome! Our City trip started with the two tours booked through your company. Perfectly on time we were greeted by our driver and our guide, Laura. The driver was very good, he drove perfectly safe (not as crazy as most of the taxi drivers!) and his minivan was very clean! While waiting for us, he was cleaning the windows of the car! Laura made sure she knew all of our names before we drove off to visit the catacombs, old Appian way, Aqueduct Park and the baths of Caracalla. During the tour, she not only told us everything and more(!) about the places we visited, but she told us also a lot about everything else: sights we passed, the trees, other aqueducts near our hotel and about the general history of Rome. We went to Appian Way and aqueduct park first, then we visited the catacombs. The last stop before lunch were the baths of Caracalla. We didn't have much time left to visit the baths, so we decided to have a quick look and we decided to go to a beautiful viewpoint for some photos while Laura told us a lot about the baths. During the morning she also showed a lot of pictures from books she brought with her to make some things more clear.
