Carnival Festival in Venice 2024

Art Food & Wine Fun & Adventure Venice and Veneto

Everything you need to know about the Carnevale di Venezia this year!

It’s that time of year again - Venice’s famous carnival! The festivities commence on Saturday, January 27th to Tuesday, February 13th and during this time, you can expect magic of all different kinds!

The theme of this year’s Carnevale di Venezia pays tribute to the famous Venetian explorer, Marco Polo. A young boy with the curiosities of the world in his mind, pushed him to travel into the far, unknown lands of China. He began his expedition with his father in 1271, traveled 24,000 miles through the Middle East and Central Asia and established trade relations between Venice and the Yuan Dynasty. This act of determination and passion for knowledge propelled Venice’s trade industry and also gave Europe first hand knowledge on the cultures of the East.

Venice’s Carnevale marks the 700th anniversary of his death so this year, the festival pays homage to his many great qualities such as his thirst for knowledge, and his brave, adventurous spirit. It will focus on the theme of the journey that life takes us, the discoveries we make, what we face in the trials of life and how we find that during our quests, we become different people than when we first left.

From January 27th to February 13th, Venice will be transformed into a spectacle of color, lights, music and decoration. The districts and piazzas will have performances, street vendors, live music, and locals dressed up in ornamental, carnival costumes. The idea is to take visitors on a fantastical journey throughout the various parts of Venice showcasing wonder and imagination through music, art and performance.

Many events and performances take place on specific days throughout the 2-week long festival, so for more information on the various celebrations on Carnevale di Venezia - refer to their official website to learn more! https://carnevale.venezia.it/en/blog/tutto-pronto-per-il-carnevale-di-venezia-2024/
