Private tour to Siena and San Gimignano from Florence

  • Town of San Gimignano
  • Town of Siena
  • Winery visit (Optional)
  • Wine Tasting (Optional)
  • Private Pick-up at Hotel
  • Private Walking Tour in Siena

This daytrip to Siena and San Gimignano will start with your private driver picking you up at the hotel or apartment in Florence.

A luxury sedan / minivan with air conditioned will take you through the beautiful countryside of Tuscany to reach the Medieval town of San Gimignano (about one hour drive). There you will have time to visit on your own this lovely town, world famous for its numerous towers, a measure of its power during the Medieval times when they were impressive in the same way of today modern skyscrapers.

After San Gimignano if you wish it will be possible to stop at a winery in the Chianti area. Here you will visit the Renaissance castle, the centuries old cellars and finally enjoy a tasting of different wines produced at the estate. Please note this is an optional activity: if you wish to include it, select the item from the options menu (located in the booking box on the upper right of this page).

Then your driver will take you to Siena where you may have lunch to enjoy some of the excellent local specialties. You will then meet your private guide (an art historian with official license from the municipal authority). You will start walking in the historical center of Siena, on narrow streets passing by beautiful ancient buildings: your private guide will lead you to the most important attractions and show you also hidden gems that are difficult to find, putting them all in the context of the history of the city.

The itinerary will start from Piazza del Campo, the large square that is world famous for the horse race that, according to some of the sources, has been done since 1260. The square is dominated by the Mangia’s tower, completed in 1348, the second tallest in Italy and adhorned by the Gaia Fountain, with decorations by Jacopo Della Quercia. On Piazza del Campo stands also the Palazzo Pubblico, the Medieval town hall.

The private tour in Siena will continue with the visit to the Duomo, the city's cathedral, built in the 13th Century, with its characteristic stripes of green and white marble. Few steps away you will enter the Baptistry, with masterpieces from Donatello and Ghiberti and then reach the Church of San Domenico, one of the most beloved by locals, with the relics of Santa Caterina. After this grandiose display of religious art, a short walk will take you to Palazzo Salimbeni, the Medieval headquarter of Monte dei Paschi di Siena, the oldest bank in the world, still in business since 1472. You will then be able to end the tour on a sweet note, as your guide will show you where you can taste the best ricciarelli, the famous local almonds cookies.

After the visit to Siena, your private driver will take you back to your hotel in Florence.

Please note that when the winery visit is included in the tour, the stopping time in San Gimignano will be reduced from about two hours to about one hour.

This tour may also be done as part of a private transfer from Florence to Rome.

This was my first visit to Florence. Andrea organized for us (husband and I) a daytrip to Sienna and San Gemininiano and it was the highlight of our stay. Our driver was very entertaining. The visit to the castle was just amazing and the wine was fabulous! In Sienna our guide was also extremely nice and very personal. I suggest taking this tour if you spend some time in Florence.
