Description:

This private food tour tour will take you to visit the best producers of balsamic vinegar, Parma ham and Parmesan cheese in the Emilia Romagna region.

You will go inside the workshops to see how the products are made and enjoy tastings of these delicious specialties.

This itinerary that combines art and food will take you in the surroundings of Bologna, Modena and Parma. After the food visits there will be a relaxing but inspiring walking tour with your private guide in the historical center of Parma, where is also possible to stop to enjoy lunch in a typical restaurant.

The tour will start from your hotel/apartment in Bologna (this tour may be arranged also from Parma, Florence, Venice or other locations, please email us for more information) where you will meet your private driver and private guide and get onboard a luxury sedan or minivan.

The first visit of this daytrip will be at cheese factory where it will be possible to taste the king of all cheeses: Parmigiano Reggiano or Parmesan as it is known around the world. It is produced within a restricted area that includes Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Bologna (on the western bank of Reno River) and Mantova (on the eastern bank of the Po River). The cheese is handmade by craftsmen using traditional methods handed down for more than eight centuries.

Our second stop will be in the hills of Parma where it is possible to visit one of the only 156 in the world Parma Ham (prosciutto crudo) producers.  Together with the tour inside the ham factory, we will also have the chance to taste this special product. Parma Ham is a jewel in the culinary tradition of Europe. By law only hams produced and cured in the hills around Parma may become Parma Hams. Only four ingredients are used to get such special product:  pork, salt, air and time.

We will continue visiting one of the oldest producer of the Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena. This type of balsamic vinegar is produced from cooked grape must, aged at least 12 years, and is protected under the European Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) system. We will have the chance to learn more about the techniques used to get such a special product and we will taste different types of balsamic vinegar.

If you wish to indulge even more in food delights, your guide will tell you where you can have lunch in a typical restaurant. If time allows, the tour will end with a walking tour in the historical center of  Parma, the city of Giuseppe Verdi, the great composer. Parma is home to two of the greatest masterpieces of Italian Medieval architecture and sculpture: the Duomo, and the Battistero, the latter a unique evidence of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic style.

At the end of the day.your private driver will take you back to your hotel in Bologna (or other location to be agreed).

As this will be a private tour you are free to choose the starting time, pick-up and drop-off locations. If you wish we may also customize for you the itinerary. This tour includes a private driver and also a private guide from the KissFromItaly team.

I very much enjoyed this food tour, it was fun and insightful. We loved the comfort of having our own driver and private car and our tour guide Camilla was very nice. I loved seeing the factories inside and the tastings were excellent! All our family had a great time, especially my daughter who kept talking about this tour for many days after! Thank you!
