Our private tour of Bologna will start in the Neptune’s square, where you can admire the fountain of the Neptune and other two important buildings: King Enzo’palace  and Podestà palace, two key places for the history of the town.

We will then visit the Basilica of San Petronio, also known as the unfinished church, that hides inside the longest meridian in the world.  Walking under the Pavaglione Porticoes you will reach the first seat of the University, the Archiginnasio Palace: inside it is possible to visit the Anatomical Theater, where lesson of human anatomy were having place since it was built in 1637.

Passing through the Medieval Market you will learn about the culinary tradition of the city and go inside historical shops to taste local food starting from Mortadella the most traditional food of Bologna. This heat-cured pork sausage is considered the queen of the city while the king is the Tortellino (hand-made pasta filled with meat). While learning about the food culture of Bologna you will sample various types of food (fresh pasta, cured meat, cheese) and have a tasting of local wines: Sangiovese, a red wine and Pignoletto a sparkling white wine.

We will then continue our walking tour and reach the beautiful church of Santa Maria della Vita, which houses the Renaissance masterpiece "Lamentation of the Dead Christ," by Niccolò dell’Arca, a colleague of Michelangelo.

We will then make another food stop in the oldest shop in Bologna to taste some excellent chocolate produced by a company founded in 1797.

Walking towards the Mercanzia Palace, the seat of the medieval guilds in Bologna, we will reach the complex of Santo Stefano, also known as the Seven Churches, a place full of magic and history. Our tour will end in front of the two towers, Asinelli and Garisenda, a symbol of a medieval Bologna.

If you wish is possible to add the visit to an artisans' shop where they hand-make the traditional fresh pasta of Bologna, tortellini, tagliatelle and other kinds. You will see how this delicious type of pasta is made and will have a chance to interact during the process. To book this additional item please open the options menu in the reservation box located in the upper right of this page. Please note that this is a fun and informative experience but is not a cooking class, it is just a demonstration in a shop where they make and sell fresh pasta. If you are interested in a cooking class see here.

Dear Cori, I just wanted to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed our two days in Bologna thanks to your wonderful guides Camilla and Alessandro (for the motor valley tour) and Marica for the Art, Food and Wine tour. Marica is a fabulous guide, she is very knowledgable on the history and art which she enthusiastically shared with us. We enjoyed her company and this amazing tour. We will definitely recommend both of these tours to anyone thinking of visiting Bologna, and we hope to visit the city again in the future. Grazie mille Kind regards Sandra, Matthew, Sal and Tim
